Sports health check

Physical activity is one of the most important healthy lifestyle habits and produces multiple benefits, including maintaining and improving physical ability and mental health, preventing obesity and osteoporosis, the reduction of the risk of cardiovascular diseases, as well as facilitating social relations.

Sports Medicine Unit

The Corachan Esport Sports Medicine Unit carries out medical examinations in Barcelona on amateur or professional sports people, as well as the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of injuries or other pathologies related to practising sport.

Suitability for practising sport check

The sports health check aims to detect diseases which either contraindicate doing sport, make it recommendable to adopt a series of preventative measures, or carry out a medical follow-up that allows people to enjoy sport in a way that is safe for their health.

The sports health check is mainly aimed at examining the cardiovascular system and the locomotor apparatus. In terms of the locomotor apparatus, the medical check-up is aimed at assessing the structure and mobility of the different muscular groups, articulations, ligaments and tendons. The cardiovascular check-up is aimed at detecting cardiovascular diseases with the risk of sudden death. Therefore, it is important to take the kind of sport to be played into account, as well as the hours dedicated to it per week.

The personal background of diseases, of symptoms when making an effort (palpitations, breathlessness, chest pain) need to be taken into account, as well as whether there is any family background of cardiovascular disease or sudden death.

Once the physical examination has been made, an electrocardiogram, a complete echocardiogram and a stress test will determine the patient's suitability to do sport.

This includes:

  • History and physical examination
  • Echocardiogram and ECG
  • Stress test
  • Certificate of fitness for sport

Injury follow-up appointment

The correct diagnosis of an injury is the first, basic step to be able to treat it correctly. Therefore, the clinical history (what happened, how, when, etc.) and the physical examination will provide us with key information to manage the diagnosis, which will be confirmed with imaging tests (ultrasound, MRI scan, etc.).

Once the diagnosis has been made, we have a team of physiotherapists and rehabilitation trainers who, together with the doctor, will design a personalised rehabilitation protocol for the patient. There will be continuous follow-up on the injury until it has healed.

This includes:

  • Doctor’s appointment
  • Ultrasound
  • Design of the rehabilitation protocol

Prevention of injuries and reintroduction into sport

“Prevention is better than cure” is one of medicine’s great principles. The aim of these appointments is to detect factors with a risk of injury in professional or amateur sportspeople. A correct physical examination enables us to detect weak points that must been reinforced to reduce the risk of injury. An initial evaluation by our doctors, together with the knowledge of the training and the rehabilitation of our physiotherapists and rehabilitation trainers will enable personalised prevention programmes to be designed and adapted to the needs of the sportsperson over time.

We help people who want to return to sport or those who wish to start doing it for the first time. Sedentary adults, former sportspeople, people who are overweight, who have hypertension, diabetes, etc. We help them to reintroduce or start sport with the aim of improving their health in a safe way and with the help and advice of our professionals. An initial evaluation of the state of health and of the risk factors of the patient, followed by the design of the training programmes by our physiotherapists and rehabilitation trainers.

This includes:

  • Medical assessment
  • Design of the rehabilitation protocol
